Preserving the Digital Heritage of the World: Some thoughts after having collected 30 million Swedish web pages

Abstract

This paper is dedicated to the tremendous task of archiving the digital heritage of the world. Much thought and many discussions and papers have been given to the question of web archiving during the last years, while most of the documents on the Internet have disappeared and cannot be retrieved again. I will discuss different possible approaches to some of the problems relating to the preservation of digital information, against a background of experiences from the Kulturarw3 Project of the Swedish National Library as well as other ongoing projects.
