Blogg – et arkiv for skriving og refleksjon

Ruth Grüters

Abstract

Writing is a technology that makes possible the registration, storing and distribution of information. This article argues that written communication is informed in the most literal sense by the technologies by which it is brought forth, and that the content of the communication is formatted by the technological possibilities and limitations of whatever medium is employed. The specific technology examined in this essay is the blog, and the thrust of the argument bears upon how the blog can be better understood when considered as the remediation of older writing tools. Using historical examples as the ancient wax tablet, the diary, the maritime logbook and the archive, the article demonstrates how the blog is a multi-stable technology that refines prior writing technologies in a way that makes it a tool particularly fitted to produce and communicate, memorize and store experiences and reflections in public.
