Special issue call for papers
Digital humanities is a highly international area of research. However, as an increasing part of Nordic (including Baltic) cultural heritage is being digitized, new resources are made available for digital humanities research. This special issue on Nordic digital humanities research explores how digital tools, methods, and infrastructures can contribute to the understanding of the Nordic past and present. We invite submissions about practices that may be useful for developing digital humanities research in Nordic countries, exploring practical applications of critical perspectives on digital resources and infrastructures. Case studies are welcome, but should also reflect on the outputs of digital humanities research and its meaning outside of the digital humanities community.
Contributions might address issues such as the following:
- Distant reading Nordic textual heritage
- Crowdsourcing and public engagement
- Collaboration and infrastructure
- Visualization and materiality
This Human IT special issue is a collaboration with the Digital Humanities in the Nordic Countries 2nd Conference, DHN 2017. We welcome conference participants looking to develop abstracts into papers. Note this is an open call and not limited to conference attendees, though we encourage tapping into DHN 2017 themes!
Submissions are welcome in four categories: peer review, open section, people & opinions, book reviews. This means conference abstracts can be developed into full papers for peer review, but you also have the choice of submitting in a freer format. This includes, but is not limited to, conceptual papers, academic debate pieces, experimental or artistic renderings, and project and conference reports. We also welcome reviews of books related to the call topic – please contact Human IT for review copy requests.
Submission deadline: September 15 September 24, 2017
Preliminary decision: October 25, 2017
Issue scheduled for spring 2018
