"Don't worry" eller "Mama, can this really be the end?"

Abstract

This paper looks at some of the differences between paper based and digital text editions. Certain problems that occur in digital editions are presented and discussed but it is claimed that some of them result from the newness of the medium and it is postulated that solutions similar to those already found for paper editions will be established.A digital edition and computer tools do not only assist an editor in publishing a traditional edition. Rather the new tools should also make it possible to establish a new kind of edition: the digital "complete" archive of an authors texts. Such an archive will provide data which can be filtered into editions which might each follow different editorial practices.

I denne artikkelen vil jeg se på noen av aspektene ved tekstutgaver i den digitale verden. Sitatene i tittelen er begge hentet fra Internett, det ene anonymt det andre skrevet av Bob Dylan (Dylan66) 1. Strengt tatt gir begge inntrykk av en håpløs situasjon, men jeg håper her også å kunne vise at digitale utgaver 2 ikke bare gir oss hjelp i det tradisjonelle arbeid med tekstutgaver men også bringer inn noe nytt - legger grunnen for nye tanker og metoder innen utgivelsesfilologi.
